An oversupply of doctoral degrees
America produced more than 100,000 doctoral degrees between 2005 and 2009. In the same period there were just 16,000 new professorships.

I suspect there are opportunities for new PhD's in other countries if you are willing to move. Your chances of finding work will also depend on your field. I also suspect that anyone getting an EdD or PhD in education or administration already have jobs.
