This fact doesn't bother me in the least.

It is only a bad thing in an environment devoid of an attempt to foster respect and responsibility in students. This fact is only a problem in environments that seek the head-in-the-sand approach to mobile computing(phones).

Often my students see me take a .25 second glance at my phone, return it to my pocket... only to send a reply (perhaps) once the class session reaches an end. Do you know what my student cellphone behavior looks like? It looks just like that. Connected. Respectful. Non-confrontational. Professional.

Has happened in my class, I think it made the student feel good that her father wished her a good day at school!
